Self Catering cottage near Bassenthwaite Lake and Keswick in the Northern Lake District

Braodness self catering cottage is situated at Scarness, a beautiful and peaceful location five miles from Keswick and two miles from the village of Bassenthwaite. Broadness Farm is 150 yards from Bassenthwaite Lake and a mile from the the foot of the Skiddaw mountain range.

Visitors staying at the cottage can occupy their stay with a variety of activities with something for everyone:

For the nature enthusiast: Whinlatter Forest, on the far side of Bassenthwaite Lake, annually attracts a pair of breeding Ospreys which often use the lake to fish. The grounds at Broadness Farm offer unparalleled (and private!) views of the forest and lake.

For the sports enthusiast: The Skiddaw mountain range is famous for the walks and cycle paths surrounding the area. Walkers and mountain bikers can set off from the door of the cottage removing the need for a car. Bassenthwaite is home to a popular paragliding school and Bassenthwaite Lake has a sailing club. The lake also offers good fishing and windsurfing! There is also a fitness club two miles away. Cockermouth golf club is four miles West and Keswick Golf Club is eight miles East.

For all the family: Trotters World of Animals, home to hundreds of friendly animals, is three miles away. The fitness club mentioned above also has a swimming pool. The Keswick Launch Company offers boat trips on Derwentwater (including rowing and motor boats). Nichol End near Portinscale offers windsurfing and sailing lessons.

Keswick offers a huge variety of variety of activities - the famous Theatre by the Lake, the Keswick museum, the Alhambra cinema, the Keswick climbing wall, Cars of the Stars and much more. There are shops and restaurants and cafes, all within a five mile drive.

Broadness Cottage is situated within the grounds of Broadness Farm. As a visitor of the cottage you are welcome to cross the farm land and walk down to Bassenthwaite Lake where you can enjoy watching the local Ospreys fish, have a picnic beside on the lake shore or simply enjoy the stunning lakeside views.
